About Us

From the seed of an idea, ECA was launched in September 2008 at Alphington School, Exeter.  After this 20-30 of us met monthly to discuss, plan and agree a vision and the practicalities of the project.  Finally, in March 2009 we registered as an Industrial and Provident Society Co-op – a not-for-profit organisation – and agreed a contract for the use of 4 acres of organic land in Shillingford near Exeter with our landlord, Andy…and then the growing started!

We are a now over 40 members,  a diverse group of local people sharing a vision that we can make a difference to how our food is produced; we work together to share skills and grow food in a sustainable and planet-friendly way.

We are an evolving organisation, where every member has a share in how the project develops and we are all learning as we go along.

ECA is committed to reconnecting people with the land and how their food is grown, as well as providing a place for recreation and community.

We are registered as a co-operative and  are not-for-profit so any profits are put back in to the project. To read our full Co-operative rules click here Exeter Community Agriculture Limited rules
